Eternal Gratitude
Its time for a little confession. I know, i keep moaning about how boring my National Service was and how boorish my supervisors were. Actually there were silver linings too. Towards the end of my service I was transferred to Team Charlie. It was mostly work around the police station. No patrols except for dispatches, escorting criminals and sometimes routine neighbourhood rounds.
I am grateful to have had friends who were very supportive and trustwothy. There were of course some people whom I thought were friends but later proved to be otherwise. (But thats another story for another time perhaps?) I didn't expect them to be nice to me. They were regulars so in other words my superiors.
I didn't realise it then but when I recall those etched memories of a pivotal moment in my life now, I recognise it was more than just friendship. We were like a band of brothers.
I never had an elder brother or sister. But these people were family to me. We saw each other more often than we would like to. (LOL) They gave me guidance and confidence. Furthermore, a cherished farewell.
Truthfully, I was heartbroken when I left. I hated being in NS but the moments we had were pure euphoria.
I'll aways remember the times that we had.
NS Sc/Sgt Hisyam.
